We dig deep into your attachment style, which oftentimes roots back to childhood. If you're curious enough, understanding these patterns can give some insight about the kid in you and how it affects the relationships of now.

At Acadia Psychotherapy, we hold space for trauma informed treatment that is both effective and compassionate.
One way we do this is through the Flash Technique. It’s a powerful psychotherapy approach that helps to decrease disturbance level of memories that are upsetting. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) shares some similarities with Flash Technique in that it makes traumatic memories less distressing. Having reduced the pain will help make therapy sessions go much more smoothly.

Principles and skills from several mindfulness based practices such as meditation, yoga, and ancient esoteric practices have been incorporated into mindfulness-based therapy. The goal of these practices are to lessen suffering and reconnect people with their joyful side. Mindfulness is all about living in the now — it’s being present and taking advantage of every moment we’re given. Along with tackling any issues that come our way, this approach helps clients fully experience life’s pleasures.
Clients will be encouraged to boost their ability to be present throughout the therapy process. By doing so, they’ll see an increase in emotional intelligence, distress tolerance, and reduction in anxiety and depression. These attributes result in improved neural pathway development as well as nervous system regulation. Through these advances, we can begin responding through the appropriate emotions instead of acting irrationally or out-of-place.
Negative thoughts will start to diminish along with harmful tendencies when patients use this framework for healing past trauma. All of these changes will lead us toward living a more fulfilling life where we’re in-tune with our surroundings.
Another type of therapy called DBT is essentially just a different name for the same concepts used within mindfulness-based therapy.

Somatic therapists combine different interventions in order to promote healing and self-awareness within clients. From somatic awareness exercises to movement-based practices, each technique has one objective: to help clients reconnect with their bodies and navigate their emotional landscapes. By tuning into bodily sensations and descriptive language, clients can process emotions in a safe environment that also supports them every step of the way.

This technique is a way for you to be able to identify and modify negative and harmful thought patterns. By using this technique, you can then be able to see what thoughts and behaviors are holding you back from bettering yourself.
CBT helps you notice certain things within your thoughts that might actually be holding you back from achieving greatness. You’ll then learn how to modify these thoughts by learning new ones, which will ultimately change the way you act… In a good way!

We take a look at your past experiences to see how they are impacting your emotional well-being. We focus on the healing of your inner child.
Techniques used pull from Carl Jung’s work as well as Internal Family Systems also called “parts work”.

Unlike traditional therapy that tends to look at the past more-so than planning for the future, positive psychology coaching focuses on what clients can do now—and in the future—to create positive change.
